After expanding his dominions and returning victorious, the Sultan decided to select a new guard of complete trust. He sent two of his best warriors to the Palace to choose the boldest and offer tribute in loyalty.

The first brought ten thousand wooden and horned bows, capable of firing successive arrows with precision. The second presented carefully prepared leather scrolls, recalling their use in battle for protection against the cold and for sending secret messages.

After brief deliberation, the Sultan declared both as winners. Though some questioned his judgment, the army had never been better armed and prepared.
